Canal Winchester, Ohio Skatepark

Opens Dec. 24, 2009.

This from the Town, sorry but happy Holidays all-

Tom: It will not be open for the holidays. We’ve had snow the last three days and it is too muddy to finish things up to the level that it needs to be at before it is open to the public. We will work on it through the winter as weather allows and will arrange for at least one if not two volunteer days in the early spring to put the finishing touches on landscape, fencing, etc. I talked with some of the kids and the skate shop on Friday and they seem to understand, we will publish something to the web tomorrow.

Proposed Coshocton Skatepark

Matt Jamison threw a link up on his site to an article about plans to make a park in Coshocton. It sounds like the city is going about things in a positive way and in the right way by getting a skater to help design and help round up skaters to see what they want.

As always, if you live around the area and have some disposable income, donate to help fund the park. The more money raised, the more stuff you can have in the park.

Canal Winchester, Ohio Proposed Skatepark Design

Looks a little cramped but it still looks like it could be fun. I’d have to skate it to judge it. The left-hand side of the euro confuses me a little cause it looks like is on the joint of the slopes which would not allow for the best maneuverability.
As you can see, the design is by WhoSkates, the people who sent me this e-mail wanted Grindline to design it.
WhoSkates has apparently designed a park for Colerain, Ohio as well.

Shouts to Matt Jamison and Jason Bash for forwarding this to me.

I sent out a message asking when the park was expected to be complete and when it would be ready to ride and got this e-mail from Tom from WhoSkates:
If the weather cooperates we will be done Friday but I’m not sure of when the City plans to allow skating. Concrete cures VERYYYY slowly this time of year so they may want to take a few weeks for this reason.”Friday I will send an e-mail the city’s way and see what they plan to do once the park is completed. Be sure to send me some pictures if the park is completed on schedule: OhioSkateUniv@gmail.com.

Student Activism: Nelsonville Needs A Park

I found this video early yesterday and was meaning to contact the above person (Jerry) but Jerry got around to contacting me first. He is trying to get some support for his cause, which is to bless a small town with a skatepark. I, for one, am always down to help anybody who is trying to get or maintain a skatepark as you can see (if you are familiar with my site). Go add him and favorite the video and spread the word. I invited Jerry to contact me and I will offer any help I possibly can.

Ironton, Ohio Proposed Skatepark

I’ve had these articles lying around for awhile so go ahead and read them.
Apparently Ironton is a small town with not a whole lot going for it.
People who commented on one of the articles are concerned that their property values are going to go down because of a skatepark.
The article is, essentially, the important part but the comments make for a good read.
Let’s just hope the mayor keeps his ground and the park is built in a good location whether the people like it or not and let’s hope the kids are responsible and don’t ruin it. Be sure to check back for updates.

Warren, Ohio Skatepark

This video troubles me a little, all of the homeowners say they want a park for the kids but have a pretty stern look when it comes to the question of location. It is also troubling that skateboarding is associated with crime just about every time a skatepark is up for discussion. It looks to me as though the park could be built far away enough to where any noise made would be minimal. Make park rules and enforce them, simple enough.

For more on the park and my thoughts click more.
