Local News – 1/25/11

From JPSkate:

“Groms Team” qualify for “King of the Groms” National Skateboard Championship!

All 4 members of the jpskate and Board Shop “Groms Team” have qualified for the “King of the Groms” National Skateboard Champtionship, held at 3rd Lair Skatepark in Golden Valley, Minnesota on February 18-20, 2011.

“King of the Groms” is a national skateboard contest series that began 9 years ago. “Groms” (competitors aged 12 and under) can compete in one or more qualifying stops: Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania, Woodward Camp in California, 3rd Lair Skatepark in Minnesota, SkateLab in Simi Valley, CA and Progressive Skate Park in Canton, GA.

Each contest has 3 events in 3 divisions – Street, Bowl and Mini-Ramp in Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. “Groms” can enter as many of the events they would like in whatever division they feel most prepared for.

jpskate and Board Shop “Groms Team” members travelled to various qualifying stops this year, resulting in qualification for all four team members in multiple events. Details are below:

Ohio qualifiers are:

Steven Bingham, 12, of Lancaster – qualified in Beginner Bowl, Beginner Mini-Ramp and Intermediate Street. Steven Skates for our friends over at R&R skateshop out of Lancaster, Ohio.

Connor Shroyer, 13, of Delaware – qualified in Beginner Street and Beginner Mini-Ramp. *** Because Connor turned 13 before the National Championship, he is unable to compete at the Februrary event. However, he automatically qualifies to compete in the “King of the Ams” championship in March (for competitors aged 13-15).

Gracie Bails, 11, of Marion – qualified in Beginner Street, Beginner Mini-Ramp and Beginner Bowl.

Colby Gulick, 9, of Grove City – qualified in Beginner Street, Beginner Mini-Ramp and Beginner Bowl.

Jackson Patton, 8, of Delaware – qualified in Beginner Street, Beginner Mini-Ramp and Beginner Bowl.

Brock Pickett,7 of Bay Village – qualified Beginner Street, Beginner Mini-Ramp and Beginner Bowl. Brock skates for Martini Skate&Snow.

jpskate and board team members-Gracie, Colby and Jackson will travel (with their families) to Golden Valley, MN on February 18-20 for the National Championship. They are 3 of only 6 qualifiers from the state of Ohio Congrats to the jpskate and Board Shop “Groms Team”!

Construction has started on the Coshocton Skatepark. Above is a 3d walkthrough of what the park should look like. The video was made by Todd Schumaker using Google Sketchup.

Jason McCurdy gave me a heads up that there will be a meeting regarding the current state of the project.

“The Coshocton Skatepark Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Frontier Power Co. An update on construction progress will be given and fundraising will be discussed.”
